West Island Squanders Great Game by Day
The inspired effort of West Island center fielder John Day was not enough to prevent a loss, 9-7, to the Montreal Mounties. Day went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs, while adding 5 RBI and scoring twice. Montreal pitcher Jose del Real earned the win, hiking his record to 14-4. Ken Aubin suffered the loss. Bill Wolfe wrapped it up, recording his 36th save.

Montreal used a clutch at-bat from Jean-Louis Barrier to capture the win. The catcher hammered a grand slam home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Mounties ahead, 7-2. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.

"We were able to get some things going offensively," said Barrier.

The Roberto Clemente League International Division-leading Mounties are 95-65.
