In a low-scoring contest between the Joplin Fireballs and the Reno Raiders, Matt O'Connor was the X factor. The Joplin right-hander spearheaded the 3-2 win. O'Connor got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 6 hits and walked 4 over 6.2 innings. He allowed 2 runs. Orlando Sanchez closed the game out for Joplin, earning his 1st save.

Making an impact for Joplin was third baseman Devin Spang. Dogface drilled a run-scoring double off Jonathan Hogle in the top of the fourth. For the game, Spang went 2-3 with a double.

Reno manager Rod Cirilo said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
