Alex Fernandez did all he could to help his team prevail. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the State College Swallowtails from losing the game, 7-6, to the Thunder Bay Black Bears in 10 innings at Stars Field. Fernandez went 2 for 4 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while adding 4 RBI and scoring twice. Thunder Bay reliever Luke Clark was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Steve Marasco. The loss makes State College 4-2.

Marvin Weier came through with a big-time hit for Thunder Bay. The designated hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 7-6. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

"The game is never over 'til it's over," said a jubilant Qi-chang Ec, the Thunder Bay skipper.
