The home crowd had a good time watching the Joplin Fireballs and Amarillo Armadillos get after it.
John Tarr helped his team muscle past the Joplin Fireballs, 10-3. In the game, the Amarillo designated hitter was 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 times. Mike Downey, the winner, improved to 1-0. He held the Fireballs to 3 runs on 4 hits over 6.1 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 1.
Hector Bautista drew 2 walks in 5 trips to the plate. He drove in 2 runs for Amarillo. The 21-year old second baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring ground out off Raul Capetillo. It was his 3rd RBI of the season.
"We're in a rut," said Joplin manager Daniel Petro.
The win puts Amarillo at 7-3.
