The Hawaii Honu defeated the Vancouver Pioneers, 8-5. Catcher Paul Cavanaugh deserved a large share of the credit. Cavanaugh went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Honu. The loss has the Pioneers at 11-8.

The Pioneers had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Honu going into the top of the eighth inning. That changed quickly when the 26-year old first baseman Adam Hunt came to the plate. Hunt hit a bases-clearing double on a 0-2 cutter from Vancouver hurler Kenny Poor. It was Hunt's 3rd double of the year.

"I'm trying to see the ball big, see the ball up in the zone and put the barrel on it," Cavanaugh told the Hawaii Bulletin.
