Spirited fans greeted the Astoria Argonauts for their clash with the Peoria Caterpillars.

The Peoria Caterpillars topped the Astoria Argonauts, 9-2, the lion's share of the credit going to designated hitter Ben Petrich. On the day, Petrich went 4 for 4 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 2 for the Caterpillars. Kevin Grisham earned the win to go to 3-1. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, with 6 walks and 5 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. Martin Mercier earned the save, his 1st.

Peoria used the hitting of Alemu Yakubu to pick up the win. The right fielder clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Caterpillars on top, 6-2. For the game, Yakubu had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"We came in and did what we needed to do," said Peoria manager Scott Andrews.
