Fireballs Get One-Run Win at Peoria
Due in large part to first baseman Erik Kent, the Joplin Fireballs sunk the Peoria Caterpillars, 7-6. Kent went 2-5 with a home run, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. Juan Manzanares picked up the win with 5.2 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 9 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 4. On the season, he is now 4-0. Raul Capetillo earned save number 2 this season.

Brian Cranston had a big 2-run home run for the Fireballs in the top of the fourth inning. With Joplin leading 2-1 and a runner on 1st, he sized up a fastball from 25-year old left-handed pitcher Frank Sturge and punished it. The result was his 9th home run of the season, which put the Fireballs on top, 4-1.

"I don't care about style points," Kent said. "I only care about winning."

The Fireballs now own a record of 21-29.
