Black Bears Drop Close One Late
Fans who congregated at Edgbaston were treated to extra-inning drama.

Thanks in large part to designated hitter Garrett Stebbins, the Waimea Wind clipped the Thunder Bay Black Bears, 9-8, in 11 innings. Stebbins went 3-4 with 2 home runs and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Mark Weston claimed the win after being brought in from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record stands at 4-9.

The game was at a stalemate until catcher Khalil Adams came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Thunder Bay pitcher Ray Clemens, he hit a 0-1 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Waimea on top, 9-8.

"Took some scratching and clawing," said Adams. "But we got it done."

The Wind sport a record of 25-42.
