At Cobb Field, the Joplin Fireballs and Billings Mustangs were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Billings Mustangs pitcher Ken Fellows whisked his team past the Joplin Fireballs, 7-2. Fellows, now 1-1, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 1 run.

The Mustangs had to work out of trouble in the top of the seventh. The score was 5-1, Billings, with one out. Joplin, with the bases loaded, was mounting a threat. Joe Parry dug in at the plate, but on a 0-1 fastball, he hit into a double play.

The loss makes Joplin 35-35.
