The Joplin Fireballs downed the Billings Mustangs, 6-1, at The Firepit. Stellar pitching by Gordie Woodworth had a lot to do with it. The right-hander, who is tied for 8th in the TAAA with a 4.16 ERA, handcuffed his opponent all game. The winning pitcher was Woodworth, now 11-8. He tossed 7.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 2. Jaime Clayman picked up the save, his 6th.

Brian Cranston, who is tied for 10th in the TAAA in home runs with 19, chipped in a 3-run home run for Joplin in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the shortstop had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 4 RBI.

"Gordie was able to locate to both sides, up and down," said Joplin manager Daniel Petro.

The Fireballs go to 44-50, putting them last in the TML AAA Joe Torre Division.
