Fireballs Lose, 7-2, at Ken Griffey Jr. Plaza
|
The Indianapolis Ambition polished off the Joplin Fireballs by the score of 7-2. The largest share of the credit belonged to first baseman Rich Van Winkle. Van Winkle slugged 2 home runs, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Ambition. Indianapolis reliever Dan Gardner picked up the win, upping his record to 2-7. Ramon Franco absorbed the loss. The 4th-place Ambition lifted their record to 50-59.
With Indianapolis leading 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Van Winkle hit a sinker from Ramon Franco for a 2-run home run. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Ambition ahead, 3-0.
"We need better swings, better at-bats," said losing manager Wade Marone.
