The Fort Worth Cats rode a solid performance from 21-year-old starting pitcher Bob Epperson to a win, beating the Thunder Bay Black Bears, 6-2, at LaGrave Field. The first-place Black Bears dropped to 64-41.

The Cats got a big at-bat from third baseman Dave Allred. For the game, Allred went 1 for 3 with a double and a walk, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the first, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 14th double of the season gave Fort Worth a 3-0 lead.

Fort Worth manager Dudha Goli commended his team for "banging out a nice win."
