The Fairfield Flash easily defeated the Memphis Privateers, 12-4, at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, with right fielder Bill Matthews a main contributor to the win. He was 3 for 3 with 2 home runs. He drove in 5 runs and scored twice for Fairfield. Mike Whittle picked up the save, his 2nd. The Flash now own a record of 52-53.

Roland McDonald had a big 2-run home run for the Flash in the bottom of the second inning. With Fairfield trailing 1-0 and a runner on 1st, he got a cutter from 33-year old left-handed pitcher Kiyonobu Yamasaki Jr. and swatted a home run to center. It was his 13th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Flash ahead, 2-1.

"It was a solid team effort," McDonald said. "That's usually what it takes to win."
