In a low-scoring contest between the Eureka Hornets and the El Paso Mavericks, Justin Soule, who led the RCL in ERA with 3.63 last year, proved to be the difference. The Eureka left-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-2 Hornets win. In 7 innings, Soule surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 2. He allowed 2 runs. The win brings the Hornets to 19-13, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.

Ray Goodwin hit a 2-run home run off Jon Aguilera in the bottom of the sixth, which put the Hornets ahead, 3-1. In addition to the homer, Goodwin had 1 double, while going 2 for 3.

"Justin -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Hornets manager Juan Montés. "He was the key to us winning."
