Joplin Loses, 9-7, to Amarillo in 11
Joplin got a terrific game from center fielder Victor Navedo. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Amarillo, 9-7, in 11 innings. Navedo hit 3 home runs, while scoring 4 runs and driving in 5. Amarillo reliever Jonathan Huitt picked up the win, raising his record to 3-2. Matt O'Connor was tagged with the loss. The Fireballs, now 57-80, have lost 4 straight.

The Fireballs had been locked in a 7-7 tie with the Armadillos going into the top of the 11th inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old right fielder Adam Bergeron came to the plate. Bergeron hit a run-scoring double on a 2-2 sinker from Joplin hurler Matt O'Connor. It was Bergeron's 3rd double of the year.

"Our guys refused to lose," said Bergeron.
