Mavericks Lose Again, 7-5, to Hornets
Jeff Gifford had a good game, but he could not keep the El Paso Mavericks from falling, 7-5, to the Eureka Hornets at The Corral. The El Paso third baseman was 4-5 with 3 doubles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Sebastian Raymond earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. The save was credited to Matt Acrey, his 9th.

The Mavericks had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Hornets going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the fan favorite Brian Carr came to the plate. Carr hit a 2-run double on a full count sinker from El Paso hurler Steve Surprenant. It was Carr's 7th double of the year.

"I like to lead by example," said Carr. "I'm glad I could contribute to a good win."
