At Civics Field, the Nichols Gnats and Ottawa Civics were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.

Tim Thompson had a good game, but he could not keep the Nichols Gnats from falling, 12-7, to the Ottawa Civics at Civics Field. The Nichols third baseman was 2 for 5 with a home run and a double, while adding 5 RBI and scoring once in the loss. Greg Pond was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

Mario Casares had a big grand slam home run for the Civics in the bottom of the first inning. With Ottawa trailing 2-0 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from 20-year old right-handed pitcher Jose Contreras and swatted a home run to left. It was his 1st home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Civics ahead, 4-2.

"We take it day by day here," said Casares, "and today was a good one for us."

With the win, Ottawa boosts its record to 2-2.
