Panthers Handle Nichols, Snag 3-0 Win
|
In a low-scoring tilt between the Charleston Panthers and the Nichols Gnats, Carlos Nunez, who is rated as the 56th best prospect by BNN, was the difference-maker. The Charleston right-hander spearheaded the 3-0 win. The winning pitcher was Nunez, now 3-2. He tossed 5.1 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 7. At 11-26, the Panthers find themselves in last place in the TML HA Dick Williams Division.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Panthers had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when right fielder Alfredo Castro hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Andy Guerrero and made the score 1-0, Panthers. Castro went 2 for 4 with a double.
"Carlos did a good job of managing their lineup," said Charleston manager Harry Howell.
