Emeralds Claim Late Win
The Eugene Emeralds withstood an impressive performance by Houston first baseman Rick Atherton to defeat the Sting, 8-7, at Woodland Park. Atherton went 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Eugene reliever Horst de Zwaan got the win, raising his record to 2-2. Chad Buzby was tagged with the loss. Alejandro Garcia finished the game for Eugene and earned his 1st save.

Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Miguel Colon? The Eugene shortstop had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Emeralds on top, 8-7. For the game, Colon had 1 double and 1 single in 5 at-bats.

"We'll build on this win," said Colon.

The setback makes Houston 18-17.
