Mustangs Handed 5-2 Loss by Chippewa
|
Chippewa pitcher John Smirnov had a large part in his team subduing the San Angelo Mustangs, 5-2. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. The winning pitcher was Smirnov, now 4-3. He tossed 5.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 5. Ralph Petsche closed it out for his 1st save.
The River Chiefs benefited from an error in the top of the sixth inning. Chippewa was leading 2-0 when Aaron Thomas hit a 2-run single that was misplayed. It put Chippewa in front, 4-0.
In comments to the Chippewa Today, Thomas admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
The setback makes San Angelo 10-32.
