Hazleton second baseman Jeff Ridell was instrumental in helping the Birdwings triumph, 5-4, over the Carmel Apples. Ridell went 3-4 with a home run and 2 singles. Hazleton is now 18-28.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Duncan Carter? The 22-year old center fielder Carter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put Hazleton up, 4-3. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
Ridell told a Hazleton Bulletin reporter that the win made him feel "upbeat about our team."
