Gnats Dispose of Panthers, 10-4
|
The Nichols Gnats trumped the Charleston Panthers, 10-4, at The Pond. Nichols left fielder Gene Andrews was terrific. He was 2-2 with a double and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 2. The winning pitcher was Jose Contreras. He's now 2-5. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 5 hits for the Gnats. Charleston, at 16-26, has lost 4 straight.
Rickey Jansen, who is tied for 6th in the TA in home runs with 10, took Charleston hurler Ricardo Gomez deep in the bottom of the third. His 2-run home run put the Gnats on top, 3-1. In all, Jansen had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 5.
"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Nichols manager Mike Nevil.
