Five O's Topple Mustangs with Late Rally
|
The Oconomowoc Five O's defeated the San Angelo Mustangs, 8-6, at Arnold Field. Steve Mays, who leads the THA in hits with 67, was a standout performer for Oconomowoc. His 4 hits included 3 singles and 1 double -- this in addition to the 3 runs he scored and 1 he knocked in. Luis Velez came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 3-1. The Five O's sit in first place in the TML HA Dick Williams Division with a record of 33-15.
The game was at a stalemate until pinch hitter Tom Beverly came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing San Angelo pitcher Luis Acosta, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Oconomowoc on top, 8-6.
"We'll take this win and move on," said Beverly.
