Drooping Pelicans Lose 6th Straight
|
The Marshall Lawmen managed to get by the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 2-1, at The Cell. Marshall pitcher Nate Gavin set himself apart with his performance. The winner in relief was Ryan Miller. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 1-0. Marshall has now won 4 straight, while the Pelicans have lost 6 in a row.
The decisive blow was delivered by Jaheim Whitmore in the bottom of the ninth when he hit a run-scoring double off 20-year old left-handed pitcher Tony Nunes to win the game for Marshall. The home crowd went nuts.
"This was a gut-wrenching loss," said St. Petersburg manager Gilbert Drader, "the kind that'll give you an ulcer."
