In a tight contest at Billy Mathews Field, the St. Paul Saints edged the St. Petersburg Pelicans by the score of 5-4. St. Paul catcher Sal Lopez, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. The win was credited to Luis Trevino in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Tony Polanco took the loss. St. Petersburg is still trying to get off the schneid, having lost 6 in a row.
Lopez had a game-changing home run in the top of the seventh. On a 0-2 fastball from Tony Polanco, he banged a solo home run to right, giving the Saints a 5-4 lead. It was the 4th home run of the year for Lopez.
Lopez told reporters after the game: "This one was touch and go, but we were able to put it in the win column."
