Slumping Sting Lose 8th Straight
|
The Chippewa River Chiefs topped the Houston Sting, 4-2, in TML HA action at Woodland Park. The standout performance belonged to Chippewa pitcher and Bismarck, North Dakota, native John Smirnov. Chippewa reliever Juan Sanchez picked up the win, raising his record to 4-1. Ryan Brewbaker was tagged with the loss. Ralph Petsche sewed up the save, his 6th.
Chippewa used a timely hit from Josh Sourbeer to get the win. The first baseman stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the River Chiefs ahead, 3-2. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.
Houston manager Barnabé Bacm, after yet another defeat, said: "Just different when you have that swimming feeling in your cranium. It's difficult to focus."
The first-place Sting have lost 8 straight games.
