The West Virginia Dancin' Outlaws took Ottawa pitcher Jonathan Minns's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Civics Field. The final score had West Virginia getting past the Civics, 2-1. Minns went 6.2 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. Danny Acosta, credited with the win in relief, is now 4-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 0.1 innings. West Virginia, at 43-44, holds down third place in the RCL HA Dusty Baker Division.
Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Forrest Backstrom? The 19-year old second baseman Backstrom stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put West Virginia up, 2-1. For the game, he was 2 for 4, including 1 double and 1 single.
"We busted our tails," said Ottawa manager Eduardo Rosário. "But we came up short."
