The Ottawa Civics defeated the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 5-3, in 10 innings. Doing his part was center fielder Kevin Dudas, who went 2-4 with a home run, a double, and 2 walks, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. Greg Pond, now 7-1, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on no hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. Ottawa is first in the TML HA Earl Weaver Division with a record of 66-23.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Sergio Salinas came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing St. Petersburg pitcher Jean-Pierre Barreau, he hit a full count fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Ottawa on top, 5-3.
"We're a talented bunch when we're playing well," said Salinas. "I think we showed that here."
