Blues Turn Back Mustangs, 5-4
|
The Memphis Blues racked up a win at The Barn, bumping off the San Angelo Mustangs, 5-4. Marty Cordoba, who started for Memphis, pitched effectively for his team. In 8 innings, Cordoba surrendered 5 hits, while striking out 10 and walking 1. He allowed 4 runs. Bobby Gottlieb picked up the save, his 21st.
Bryant McGarr was 2-4 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI for Memphis. The 21-year old third baseman had a key at-bat in the bottom of the seventh. With one out and the bases loaded, he broke a 4-4 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Raul Rivera. It was his 32nd RBI of the season.
"Marty was the difference maker. He was emotionally under control, had good stuff and makeup," said Memphis manager Mike Williams.
Memphis has an impressive 64-28 record.
