Pioneers Tuck Away 5-2 Win Over Havana
|
Vancouver and Havana duked it out and the Pioneers came out victorious.
Vancouver Pioneers starter Donovan Zuidema turned in an exceptional performance against the Havana Stogies at "The Fort" at B.C. Place, resulting in a Vancouver win, 5-2. Kenny Poor earned the save for Vancouver, his 11th.
The Pioneers got a big at-bat from shortstop Wonus Hagner. For the game, Hagner went 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the sixth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 13th home run of the season gave Vancouver a 4-2 lead.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Zuidema told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
The Pioneers, at 30-29, sit in third place in the Thurman Munson League West Division.
