Pitcher Jesus Lopez was sensational for the Carmel Apples in his team's 9-1 triumph over the St. Petersburg Pelicans. Lopez earned the win. Lopez picked up the win for Carmel, going 7 innings. The Pelicans had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Apples going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 23-year old first baseman Dave Hyde came to the plate. Hyde hit a 2-run triple on a 1-1 changeup from St. Petersburg hurler Esteban Paulino. It was Hyde's 1st triple of the year.
