Brea Excels, But Apples Win
The Carmel Apples outlasted Tony Brea and the Baltimore Magicians, 17-16. Brea was impressive in the loss. The Baltimore right fielder hit 2 home runs, while adding 8 RBI and scoring twice. Carmel reliever Antonio Diaz got the win, raising his record to 3-5. Jose de Hoyos was tagged with the loss. By defeating Baltimore, the first-place Apples improved to 68-46.

Carmel needed the clutch hitting of Tony Banda to seal the deal. The first baseman swatted a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Apples on top, 17-16. For the game, Banda had 1 home run and 1 single in 6 at-bats.

Baltimore manager Manny Marin expressed his frustration after the game: "That many runs and it still wasn't enough?"
