5-4 Win for Nichols in Extras
|
The Victoria Vikings could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Eric Jones into a win. Instead, the Nichols Gnats prevailed, 5-4, in 10 innings. Jones threw 8.0 innings of 7-hit ball. Nichols is 48-76 and Victoria, with the loss, 79-46.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the top of the tenth, with the game tied, Jose Castillo was at the plate when Nichols scored 1 on an error. The miscue enabled the Gnats to go in front, 5-4.
"This game tested our mettle," said Castillo.
