Birdwings Win Nail-Biter
The Hazleton Birdwings knocked off the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 9-8, at Billy Mathews Field. It took 14 innings. Elwiin Groot was a prime reason Hazleton won. The designated hitter hit 2 home runs. He drove in 4 runs and scored twice. Kensaku Nakamura wrapped it up, recording his 1st save. Hazleton, at 64-88, sits in last place in the RCL HA Tommy Lasorda Division.

Groot broke a deadlock in the top of the 14th inning, when he hit a sacrifice fly, putting Hazleton up, 9-8.
