Panthers Shimmy Past Blues, 2-1
|
Memphis pitcher Jim Kein gave the Panthers all they could handle, but in the end, Charleston left The Barn with a win, 2-1. Kein allowed no runs on 5 hits over 6.2 innings. Alejandro Saldana picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-2. Stuart Reece suffered the loss. The win for the Panthers lifted their record to 66-64.
Charleston used the timely hitting of Chris Johnson to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Panthers on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 2 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"At the end of the day, it's always about your starting pitcher," said Charleston skipper John Linttell.
