In a low-scoring affair between the Charleston Panthers and the Victoria Vikings, pitcher Ernie Gillingham was the difference between victory and defeat. The Charleston right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Panthers win. Tommy Tyler picked up the save, his 5th. The Panthers move to 51-101 with the win, while the Vikings drop to 97-54.

Charleston used a timely hit from Manuel Vasquez to get the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Panthers ahead, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"I'm just looking for a good pitch that I can hit well," said Vasquez. "And not try to do too much."
