Panthers Need Extra Innings to Top River Chiefs, 9-8
|
The Charleston Panthers cut down the Chippewa River Chiefs by the score of 9-8 in 13 innings. Much of the credit went to second baseman Frank Torres. Torres went 4 for 7 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 5 runs and scored once for the Panthers. The 5th-place Panthers now have a record of 68-67.
The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the 13th. With two out, Torres hit a fastball from Jesus Troche for a run-scoring single. The Panthers, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
"This is a resilient bunch," said Charleston manager John Linttell.
