Cortez Helps Calgary Take Triple A World Series Game 1
|
The Calgary Cowboys started the Triple A World Series in style, downing the visiting Minneapolis Freeze at Cowboys Field by a score of 4-1 to stake an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Cowboys right-hander Leonardo Cortez threw 6.2 innings of 5-hit ball.
In the bottom of the third, Calgary designated hitter Bill Thal had a productive at-bat. With a runner on 1st and two out, Thal stroked a 2-run home run to right-center. It made the score 3-1, Calgary. For the game, he went 1 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once.
Cortez said afterward that his team has grown over the course of the season, adding: "It feels good when a plan comes together."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Cowboys Field in Calgary.
