In a tight contest at Golden Gate Park, the San Francisco Earthquakes edged the Eagle Rock Ridge Runners by the score of 4-3. San Francisco second baseman Brian Cornelius, who blasted 2 home runs, was a key contributor. The third-place Earthquakes bumped their record to 36-36.

With San Francisco leading 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Cornelius hit a fastball from Jeromir Hamrlik for a solo home run. It was his 11th home run of the season and put the Earthquakes ahead, 4-0.

Cornelius called the win a testament to his team's "tenacity."
