Pioneers Dispose of Mavericks, 11-4
|
Vancouver left fielder Jose Vasquez was instrumental in helping the Pioneers triumph, 11-4, over the El Paso Mavericks. Vasquez went 2-5 with a home run and a double, while adding 4 RBI and scoring once. Matt Maxfield earned the win to go to 6-4. He allowed 4 runs on 6 hits, with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts in 5.2 innings of work. Cameron Calder closed out the game, earning his 1st save.
Ryan Welch had a big grand slam home run for the Pioneers in the top of the eighth inning. With Vancouver leading 7-4 and the bases loaded, he got a fastball from Ryan Burnett, who is tied for 4th in the RCL in holds with 6, and swatted a home run to left-center. It was his 7th home run of the season, and more importantly, it put the Pioneers ahead, 11-4.
"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Vasquez told the Vancouver Observer.
The 'W' lifts Vancouver's record to 38-42.
