Astoria-Joplin Fight Results in Suspensions Friday, September 26th , 2064 Yesterday at Golden Fleece Park Nick Johnson and Ramon Franco got into each other's space and then into each other's face. They began to grapple and fell to the ground. That's when it boiled over into a full-fledged bench-clearing tussle between the Astoria Argonauts and Joplin Fireballs. Reason finally prevailed as the umpires restored order. After much discussion, only the two major combatants were ejected from the game. Today the league office notified the ballclubs that Johnson will have to sit out 3 while Franco would be given a 6-game suspension for their roles in the brawl. Johnson on the season is hitting .343 with 25 home runs. His stats include 77 RBIs and 73 runs scored. Up to now Franco has compiled an ERA of 4.70 with a 10-7 mark over 28 starts. He has 110 strikeouts in 161 innings and has held opponents to a .273 batting average. |
