3 Boomers for Pope Thursday, April 13th , 2062 Chris Pope brutalized the St. Petersburg Pelicans pitching staff, launching three home runs in the 15-4 Eugene victory at Billy Mathews Field. The Eugene Emeralds first baseman was red-hot, the ball just exploding off his bat all day. "I don't try to hit homers," he said later. "I try to go out there and put a good swing on the ball, and sometimes it is going to go out of the park. I didn't try to hit the first one or the second one or the third one." For the game, he went 4-for-6 with 11 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Too much Chris Pope today," Pelicans manager Gilbert Drader said. "That's my assessment of the game. That's what our problems boiled down to." Chris Pope grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, hit a GRAND SLAM off Gabe Garza in the 5th, hit a GRAND SLAM off Chua-kah Tse in the 6th, hit a two-run home run off Carlos Rivera in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th. Pope is currently batting .364 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 9 runs scored. He has 16 hits in 44 at-bats. |
