Hernandez Goes Long 3 Times Sunday, April 30th , 2062 Long Beach State 49'ers right fielder Willie Hernandez sensed he was going to have a good day at the plate, but he still might have underestimated it a little. Prior to the start of today's contest with the TCU Horned Frogs, Hernandez told teammates he was sure he would hit a home run. He did -- three times. "During batting practice I really had my swing down pat," he recalled. "I felt some thunder in the lumber." The big day from Hernandez pushed the 49'ers past the Horned Frogs, 13-1. To go along with the homers, he collected 7 RBIs and scored 3 runs. "I was seeing good, feeling good and swinging good," Hernandez told reporters after the game. Willie Hernandez hit a two-run double in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Benito Guerrero in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Benito Guerrero in the 4th, hit a solo-shot off Dan Juilfs in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 7th. Hitting .288 to date, Hernandez has 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. He has played in 33 games. |
