Viveros Hits for the Cycle
Monday, September 22nd , 2064
Jorge Viveros did everything he could for the Easton Caterpillars -- literally.
The 21-year-old shortstop hit a single, a double, a triple and a home run for the Caterpillars, going for the cycle and helping them get past the Prince George Cougars, 32-10, at The Back Draft.
"Yeah, I was some kind of hitter in this game," Viveros reflected later. "It was like all I had to do was close my eyes and swing the bat."
In a game headed for the record books, Viveros banged out 5 hits in 8 at-bats and totaled 9 runs batted in and 4 runs scored. Speaking with the press about the feat, he attributed it to "a lot of luck."
"A triple is so hard to hit," he said. "To just decide to get one in a game when you need it for a cycle, it's impossible. Usually something weird has to happen, the ball kicking past an outfielder or somebody falling down. There's a ton of luck in hitting for a cycle."
Jorge Viveros flied out in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a three-run triple in the 5th, flied out in the 6th, flied out in the 7th, walked in a run in the 8th and hit a three-run home run off Kazuo Tanaka in the 9th.
Viveros is currently batting .338 with 9 home runs, 49 runs scored and 49 RBIs. His OBP is .451.
