Cornhuskers Win, Hope to Turn Around Slow Start
|
The DeKalb Cornhuskers picked up a win at The Corn Crib, knocking off the Terra Linda Chargers, 4-3. Starting pitcher Nick Dean was an essential part of his team's success. Dean got the win, improving to 1-1. He allowed 3 hits and walked 2 over 7 innings. Dean allowed 2 earned runs. Earning his 1st save of the year was Bobby Bruce.
The Cornhuskers got an important contribution from third baseman Charlie Guppy, who in the bottom of the seventh punched a 1-0 fastball into center for a run-scoring single. It was his 18th hit of the season and put the Cornhuskers ahead, 4-2.
"It's a long season," said Guppy. "We'll keep working to improve."
The win brings the Cornhuskers to 4-7, an awful start for a team that made the playoffs just last season.
