Jedi Knights Win at St. Petersburg, 6-3
|
The New Orleans Jedi Knights picked up a win at Billy Mathews Field, knocking off the St. Petersburg Pelicans, 6-3. Starting pitcher Luis Salgado, who captured player of the game honors, was a big reason why. The winning pitcher was Salgado, now 2-2. He tossed 6.1 innings of 3-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 7. Sean Mapson earned the save for New Orleans, his 6th of the year.
A crucial at-bat came with runners on 2nd and 3rd and two out in the top of the seventh inning. That's when third baseman Rafael Cortes, who is tied for 6th in the TA in triples with 2, drew a walk. The Jedi Knights went on to win.
"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Cortes told the New Orleans News.
The Pelicans, now 9-16, continue their slow start.
