The Nichols Gnats topped the Victoria Vikings, 5-2, in TMLA action at The drakkar. The player of the game was Nichols pitcher and Bullhead City, Arizona native Matt Collins. Collins went 5.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 4, and struck out 7. His record improves to 5-0. The Gnats now have a mark of 24-13.
Nichols used the timely hitting of Andres Reyes to capture the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Gnats on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but he made it count.
"It was a solid team effort," said Collins after the game.
