Lumberjacks Drop Cornhuskers, 5-3
|
Lumberjacks right fielder Ben Gordon put his stamp on his team's 5-3 win over the DeKalb Cornhuskers. Gordon went 2 for 2 with a home run, a walk, and was hit by a pitch, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once for Adirondack in the contest. Tom Novak, who went 7.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 3 runs on 5 hits, while walking 5 and striking out 5. His record now stands at 3-7. Billy Guirguis locked down his 5th save.
The Lumberjacks got a big at-bat from shortstop Sam Kowalski. For the game, Kowalski went 1-4 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 3rd home run of the season gave Adirondack a 5-3 lead.
"It takes a lot of things to win a ballgame," said Adirondack manager Nobuhito Suzuki. "It's usually not just one thing."
The 5th-place Lumberjacks are 70-88.
