The Sandy Springs Spartans beat the Niagara Falls Pipe Fitters, 11-6. Sandy Springs pitcher and Las Tunas, Cuba, native Raul Cortes led the way. The 5th-place Spartans lifted their record to 24-25.

The Spartans got a big hit from left fielder Jimmy DeFranco. In the bottom of the eighth, DeFranco smacked a bases-clearing triple off Niagara Falls pitcher Manny Carrera. It was his 3rd triple of the season. Suddenly, the Spartans were ahead, 8-6.

"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," DeFranco told the Sandy Springs Today.
