Gomez Roches, who is tied for 9th in the TAA in complete games with 1, had a strong outing for the Sandy Springs Spartans against the Rock River Rats at The Coliseum. The left-hander was a big part of his team's 4-3 win. Roches, now 5-5, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing 1 run. Kevin Felson closed the door for Sandy Springs, picking up his 13th save of the year.
Sandy Springs took a 2-1 lead on Jordan Benavides's 3rd home run of the season. The 2-run home run, which Benavides hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Rock River pitcher Steve Lees visibly frustrated.
"Gomez was doing a good job pouring in strikes," said Sandy Springs manager Rafael Alonso.
The Spartans bumped their record to 27-19 with this win.
